Hi and welcome to Content People. Thanks so much for being here.
Here we go.
The Content People Episode
Amanda Hennessey’s the bicoastal founder of Boston Public Speaking and San Diego Public Speaking. Our convo covered dealing with nerves, being a servant of your message, and how to spot your “power leaks.”
If you want to spend more time with Amanda, she’s offering a free Master Class in public speaking. And, fun fact, she was recently interviewed for this Huff Po article on how to not choke under pressure.
Find the episode here or wherever you get your podcasts.
Listening
Last week’s Pivot podcast featured psychotherapist Esther Perel [at 47:37], who offered advice on how to support each other during times of war and violence.
Reading
Clear Thinking: Turning Ordinary Moments into Extraordinary Results by Shane Parrish. I bought it immediately after listening to his Ten Percent Happier interview with Dan Harris.
Also re-reading Glossy in prep for the Content People episode with author Marisa Meltzer. Can’t wait for that one.
Following
The Girl Boss discourse. It won’t quit. Here, in this Glamour article, it’s Girl Boss vs Soft Girl. Shout out to Cydnee DeToy for her LinkedIn post on it.
I had thoughts on this: The “girl boss” and the “soft girl” are polarized archetypes. They're two extremes. And no one fits neatly into just one of these boxes.
Rather than reject or judge, we need to hold the tension of the opposites for opposing forces within ourselves and within each other.
We can have driven, ambitious phases and stretches of rest or play. Or we can consistently lean hard in one direction.
Problems - and burnout or dissatisfaction - arise when we act in a way that’s out of alignment with ourselves. If you want or need rest, relentless hustle is draining. And when you're filled with energy, motivation, and ambition, it's counterproductive to feel guilt or shame for prioritizing your work.
Pay attention to your inner voice. She knows what to do.
Ok. That’s all she wrote.
